QS Sustainability: UD is the best Hungarian university 10. Dec. 2024

In its QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, issued on Tuesday, QS ranked as many as 1,744 institutions of higher education from 107 countries, including 563 from Europe and twelve from Hungary.

In the course of the assessment, QS used three categories of indicators to assess university performance, such as environmental impact, social impact and university governance.

Of the three criteria, UD scored best in the area of university governance, ranking 186th. However, in the area of sustainability, which is part of the environmental impact category, UD is already in the top four percent of the institutions surveyed, ranking 64th.

Our university has improved its position in all three categories compared to last year. It has improved mostly in the areas of knowledge exchange, employability and opportunities and impact of education.

QS assessed institutions across more than fifty segments within the individual categories. They looked at whether an institution has a sustainability research unit, if it records its annual energy consumption, if it prioritizes minimizing its impact on climate change in its day-to-day operations, and if it has research collaborations with companies on the Forbes 2000 list. The ranking also focused on the ethical culture of the institutions, checking whether universities have a climate change strategy or a gender equality plan.
