Best Exhibitor Award for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, UD 08. Nov. 2024

The AI Transformation Conference was organized by András Hajdu, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen, and Balázs Harangi, Deputy Head of the Department of Data Science and Visualization, and the exhibition session entitled Domain-Specific AI Solutions, which included a plenary lecture by András Hajdu on AI-Based Research in a Multidisciplinary Academic Environment. The presentation essentially highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the university, highlighting some of the areas where AI is playing an increasing role.

AI is revolutionizing products, processes and strategies, bringing new capabilities and significant performance improvements to many areas of the economy, business and everyday life. This was underlined by the Chinese-Hungarian AI Innovation Summit, a professional and technological exhibition running in parallel with the scientific presentations, which brought together Chinese companies, universities and research centers, as well as leading research groups and companies from the Hungarian AI development sector. Representatives from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science UD presented their latest AI-based developments in a total of 14 innovation posters, for which they won the Best Exhibitor Award. Other exhibitors also included other units of the University of Debrecen, such as the Biomechanics Laboratory, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Multimedia and E-learning Technical Centre.

The event provided an opportunity for building contacts, networking and concrete cooperation and business negotiations between exhibitors, leading Chinese investors and a delegation from the Shenzhen Research Institute of the University of Hong Kong, China, ranked as the 44th best university in the world. The meeting aimed to launch and coordinate joint innovation, investment and business projects based on Hungarian and Chinese research.
The University of Debrecen is - as the only Hungarian institution - a member of the University Network for Research Collaboration (iUNRC), the partner university network of the One Belt One Road initiative. In this context, it is working jointly with the Shenzhen Research Institute, and is planning joint proposals for several of the projects presented at the exhibition, a unique phenomenon in the academic world. The aim is to strengthen international research cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of science, technology and innovation, contributing to the scientific and technological development of both countries.

The current event is also linked to the Far East Connectivity Strategy launched in Japan in September, where UD also hosted several sessions at the international IEEE CogInfoCom 2024 conference organized by Chou University. At the Japanese event, all the project ideas related to AI development presented by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Computer Science were considered by the organizers as suitable for collaboration, and both faculties involved, as well as the Faculty of Economics, signed a cooperation agreement with Chou University.
