The Universiy of Debrecen has moved up in the QS-ranking

The Universiy of Debrecen has further strengthened its position in the Quacquarelli Symonds world university rankings 2019, standing at the second position among Hungarian universities, overtaking even ELTE. The list was published late Wednesday night.

Six Hungarian universities has made it to the world rankings this year, too. The University of Debrecen has jumped up to the second position (601-650), overtaking Eötvös Lóránd University (of Budapest), which has finished 701-750th this year. Like last year, this year the University of Arts and Sciences of Szeged has again achieved the best result, ranking 470th with the University of Pécs in 701-750th, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and Budapest Corvinus University in 801-1000th position.

The University of Debrecen has been able to significantly improve its standing compared with its position last year based on six standpoints (: Academic reputation - 40%; Citations per Faculty – 20%; Faculty - Student ratio – 20%; Employer Reputation – 10%; International Faculty – 5%; International Students – 5%).

An important factor in the improvement was the fact that the number of foreign students studying at our university has continued to grow. This indicator is the main strength of the University of Debrecen as in this category the university was ranked 194th compared with its 250th position last year. The university has also been more favourably ranked in the academic reputation (501+) and the employer reputation (also 501+) categories and has also strengthened its position in the faculty - student ratio (448th).

The London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has been compiling the world’s univerity ranking since 2004. In this year’s publication it examined the performance of over 4.000 universities, of which 1.011 from 85 countries made it to the list.
